PHNOM
SENHARN
(
Kompot Province )
Phnom Senharn is located on the west of Angkorchey pagoda, Angsnoul
commune, Angkorchey district, Kompot province. It is about 3 kilometers
from the pagoda. This mountain is about 10 kilometers long and 5
kilometers wide and 2 kilometers high due to the length of way from the
mountain foot to the top of it. There are all kinds of plants and trees
thickly growing on the top of the mountains. There is a crevasse, Chruos
Sla ( Sla crevasse ) with clear water where it is a place of groups of
fish near northern foot of mountain and on the west of Angpunleour pagoda.
The tale connected with this Phnom Senharn is as the followings:
Once upon a time people were very starved, many of them earned a living by
taking various plantations such as bananas, sugar canes, corns, beans,
sesames, potatoes, and taro along the mountain foot which had not been
named yet. Among those who earned their living by plantations, there was a
man, Sen, who was the bravest person. When the plants grew which could be
used, there was an elephant with short tusks that entered to the planting
place and ate and damaged the plants.
Having seen that, the man Sen thought that if he did not find ways to get
rid of that elephant with short tusks, the elephant would eat and damage
all the plants. Thinking so, the man Sen held javelin common knife to kill
until the elephant died. The other people were not brave to chase to cut
that elephant at all. After the man Sen killed the elephant the villagers
called that man Ta Senklaharn. Since then, even though Ta Senklaharn died, the residents there called the
mountain where it was Ta Senklaharn's residence Phnom Ta Senklaharn. Years
and years past, it was shortened into Phnom Senharn until
now.
