Center Head wins Prestigious Award
Oung
Chantal, the director of the Cambodian Women's Crisis Committee, was
one of seven winners of this year's RAMON MAGSAYSAY
Award, announced this week in Manila, Xinhua
news agency reported. The award, named after former Philippines
president Ramon Magsaysay, was
established in 1957 and is given annually to outstanding people or
institutions in Asia. Regarded as
Asia's version of the Nobel Prize, the award is given
in six categories: Government Service; Public
Service; Community Leadership; International
Understanding; Journalism, Literature and Creative
Communication Arts; and Emergent Leadership.
Oung Chantal shares the Emergent Leadership
award with DrrA INDAH SAw of Indonesia, the
report stated. It is a category introduced this year to
acknowledge people age 40 or younger who are
bringing about significant social change,
CarummvcarA ABI'71A the foundation president, told
Xinhua. Other winners this year are RmENDRA
SiNGH of India for Community Leadership, HIRAYAMA, for International
Understanding and
KWD AMARADEVA of Sri Lanka for Journalism,
Literature
and Creative Communication Arts.
