Public Works Signs Water Treatment Deal
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has signed an agreement with
Japanese consultant Nippon Jogesuido Sekkei Co to study plans for
building waste treatment and clean water facilities in six provinces. The projects will be built with a five-year, $20million loan from
the Asian Development Bank. Officials anticipate growing problems from
human and industrial waste entering Cambodia's waterways, said Vong
Piseth, deputy director of road development for the Ministry.
Clean-water and waste-treatment facilities will be built in
Sihanoukville, Battambang and Kompong Cham. Clean-water projects will be
constructed in the Pursat, Kompong Thom, Kompot and Svay Rieng
provincial capitals, said Vong Piseth. Bidding for the
projects will begin at the end of 2001 or beginning of 2002.
