A
feasibility study is now under way for the construction of a
hydroelectric plant on the Kamchay River in Kampot province.
The
Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy last month signed a
memorandum of understanding with the Canadian firm Experco
International Ltd to conduct a study on the approximately $ 190
million Kamchay a Hydroelectric Project, which would reduce running
transmission lines between Kampot province, Sihanoukville and Phnom
Penh.
The new source of Power would reduce electricity production costs in
the country. The project was declared viable after a
pre-feasibility study, prompting this second study, which is funded
by the Industrial Cooperation Division of the Canadian International
Development Agency.
