Minister of Cabinet
Sok An told a subcommittee of the UN Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization Friday that Cambodia will hold a
national seminar in June on ways to curb the trade in stolen art. Sok
An, speaking at the closing session of a four-day Unesco
meeting on the topic, said the seminar will adopt âa national action
plan to prevent the looting of cultural heritage. âSok
An is chairman of the Cambodian National Commission for
Unesco, which will sponsor the seminar. Unesco officials urged all
nations facing looting problems to document as much of their heritage as
they can to aid recovery, and called on international art dealers,
collectors and museums not to buy items that may be stolen.
